View Full Version : PDR100/SS1000 Mounting Suggestions for early 911

I just purchased an SS1000 and a second bullet cam to augment my existing ChaseCam setup for my 911. I plan to use this second camera to "watch" things on the inside of the car, while camera #1 is mounted on the right side A-pillar looking out the front windshield. Thus, I hae a few questions:

1. Mounting. I have the double mounting setup from ChaseCam. To achieve the best audio quality using this mount, which unit should be on top and which should be on the bottom? If the units are mounted horizontally, providing some orientation descriptions would be helpful - i.e. PDR100 should be mounted so that its keypad is facing UP, etc.... What I am trying to achieve is the best audio from the internal mic of the PDR. I will most likely mount the unit below the knee bar of my roll cage. Would really appreciate some recommendations here if at all possible.

2. Power-on. Since I use my TraqMate to power on the ChaseCam via the TraqMate TraqSunc cable (which works GREAT, BTW), how do I add the SS1000 into this equation so that its power is signaled by the TraqSync as well?

Thanks much! I really love this setup and want to get the most out of it. There was a great thread on the old board that covered this exact topic (if it can be unearthed!).

Hey Toby,

I'm assuming you have the PDR running off of switched power in the vehicle. Run the SS1000 off the same power signal. The SS1000's power switch should be left "ON" so it powers up whenever the vehicle is turned on. Then it will be ready to send the video signal to the PDR when the TraqMate powers it on.

We always mount the PDR on the top of the dual mount so we have easy access to the keypad and screen. The PDR really shouldn't care what orientation/position is used for mounting for sound or otherwise. If you're using the on-screen G-Force display, you can re-calibrate it to 0/0 via the PDR menu.

I also use the 2nd camera in the same way you're planning to. It's very helpful to see what the driver is doing in combination with what he/she is seeing.

Good luck!

Thanks Randall. Will keep you posted. I have my ChaseCam hardwired for power and my TraqMate turns it on when I get Sat lock. Will simply tap into the same fuse location to source power for the SS1000. Will experiment with a few placements to see about sound quality.
