Hi all,
been having fun with the Dashware evaluation version. I'm really impressed with the product. It's intuitive and easy to get started with.
I'm using a QStarz BT-1000 GPS travelrecorder but need to capture g force also. It's for an aviation application so need +/- 12g. Ideally should also have 3 axis inclinometer. Anyone know of a *cheap* logger that can do that?
Many thanks,
Marc
Hi Marc,
Thanks for the feedback! I'd love to see aviation videos with gauges.
The logger I use will output GPS-calculated G-forces when I export data from it's analysis software. Only 2 axis though--lateral and forward/back. It has an accelerometer too, but the leaning of my bike in the corners really messes up the lateral G readings (they come back as noise). So I actually use the GPS-calculated G's for my video gauges.
We already have the concept of "calculated inputs" in DashWare and we want to expand the list in the future to include things like GPS-calculated Gs and such. We'll have to keep 3D space in mind for aviation videos. This is probably a ways out though.
Mark is a much stronger math guy than me, so I'm not going to take a stab at the formula... but there's probably a way to bring your existing data into Excel to get some rough G-force numbers using time and your GPS coordinates. I've heard that the altitude reading from a GPS are not very accurate, but when I graphed a 3D plot of data from a hilly track (Horsethief Mile) I could see the elevation changes and they looked about right to my eyes. Maybe it gets worse at the heights that your airplane would be in, I'm not sure.
