this was made with a cheap (200) hd cam, a vado hd, any way to get a signal like this coming into the pdr for cheap?

Personal preference, but I'd take a stock PDR setup over that. The 'waviness' in the video is common in 'cheap' video cameras. It's crisper, but it's making me seasick.
But, to answer your question, the PDR can record any _composite_ video signal that you send it to an SD MPEG2 file, so you could hook up a $20k production video camera to it if you like--we actually have people in Hollywood who do this. What you're seeing there is a (poor) HD signal. The author claims it's a mount problem, but the waves in the video indicate that the camera sensor can't keep up with the image.

The Vado uses a rolling CMOS sensor and they react badly to high frequency vibrations, you get that wave effect you see.
That said, the Vado is arguably the best of the current HD handheld devices and I think you will have a good result if you mount it firmly. There are many Vado clips on Youtube, many of which show how good the unit can be.
You won't be able to pipe HD into the PDR no....
