Hi Guys.
So I'm a Trackvision convert. Gee, I was so sick of that program in the end, clumsy, slow, buggy and every time those guys released an update the thing would fall over in some new and imaginative way. The admin staff on their site are very helpful and knowledgeable but frankly I started to feel like some whiny little dog yapping away at them lol

So far Chasecam has proved to be a huge improvement, so well done guys !!!

Anyhoo, I have a small issue which hopefully can be resolved.

Got one of the stock dash's modified to my liking but one thing isn't working, that being "fastest lap".

It doesn't work using the Corvette dash which has this feature already, so it's not my syntax.

My logger is the G2X unit.

The regular lap timer runs and resets every time the car passes the "start" point so...................

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

If you didn't change anything in that Corvet ZR1 gauge, you have 3 kind of informations about the fastest lap :
Fastest Lap Time > Called FastLap on the gauge image
Fastest Lap # > Just a N° in front of FastLap on the gauge image
Fast Lap, Same Pos - Time Diff > Called Diff on the gauge image.

With your time Lap datas, dashware automatically calculate the different informations concerning the laps. Current time, total Lap, fastest Lap time etc...

To see what Lap informations Dashware can give you with your datas, look at:

-In the project window.
1 clic on the gauge you use ( corvet ZR1 ) in the small window "progect gauge".
1 clic on the first button "edit gauges assignments".
In that window, you have all the channels of the Gauge and in the dropdown list "data value" your owne channels that you can use. At the end of that dropdown list, you have the avalable Lap channels created by Dashware.

Check if the Gauge chanels are well assign with your datas, it's normaly automatic but in some case you must to assign them manualy.

For the "Fast Lap, Same Pos - Time Diff", if you don't have gps data, it's not working. You don't have it into your channel list.

Hope it's help you, tell me.

Regards
Michel

I have the dash working fine with the lap timer, the only time function which does not work is the fastest lap function.
The lap timer resets when the car passes the assigned start line ok, but does not assign or update the fastest time.

Marcus,

Don't wait for an assignment or an update for the best lap time, it is automatically calculate when you load your data file. So when it's working, the best lap time and it's number is on the gauge image for all the time of your video, from the first to the last lap.

As you have the current lap time working, normaly you did have the best lap time and it's N°.

Did you check the "edit gauge assignments"
Did you see the dropdown list that I call you first ?

Yep, I understand that Michel. Yes, all the assignments are fine. As I said before though, I dragged the unedited ZR1 dash onto my dashboard to check and that won't work either.
I tested and also notice that the <time diff> function simply counts down from zero when i pass the start point, perhaps with 2 seconds offset from the current lap time, it has nothing to compare against so simply starts from zero i suppose. .

I had this same thing with trackvision and it was to do with a channel assignment in the CSV file. i had to rename the GPS_Data:Run_LapT header to GPS_Data:Run_LapTx otherwise I would get EXACTLY the same problem........... ?

Marcus,

My ability stop at that point, when I worked ( and also now ) with TV I hadn't GPS datas. I don't want to make change something wrong in your data .csv.

Chasecam guys are surely going to answer you and find the solution, but with the different of the hours you get it during the night.

Realy sorry for that "no help". :(
To be in first, Put a message to cover this answer.

Cheers
Michel

Well thanks for your help Michel.
Yes, hopefully the guys will help out, it's my first test of tech support :)

Hi Marcus,

I did a quick test with my own G2X data and the ZR1 gauge and it appears to be functioning fine on my side. I see my fastest lap # and fastest lap time. There is probably something different with your CSV file that is not being handled correctly.

If you set a start/finish on your G2X at the track then we will use that position in DashWare by default. In our Synchronization tab you can also manually set a start/finish position based on where the red position dot currently is. Can you try moving the time slider such that the red dot is about where your G2X start/finish is, then click on "Set Start" (top right in Sync tab). After doing this, double check that your gauge input mapping are still correct. Does your fast lap time now work?

Can you email me your data file (rolf@chasecam.com) so I can have a look?

By the way, what version of the G2X DataLink software are you using?

Thanks,
Rolf

CSV is on the way Rolf.

I never set the Start point on my G2X, I don't use the display at all.

i set the start point at various places and also deselected closed course and set start & end points. All no use,

however i did find something out- the fastest lap does have a time value and if I move the sliders around I can adjust that time. Now, I see that the show time is always lower than my fastest lap, I can't actually move the sliders to get over my fastest lap, so therefore it will NEVER update.

How to reset that value?

Marcus,

You found a nice bug that we must address in an upcoming release. At least it will be really easy to fix.

Since your data starts before the start/finish point on the front straight, your fast lap ends up being that little stretch between the start of your data and the start/finish point.

If I set the start/finish point just before the spot where your data start point is (see attached image), then I get a 1:26.199 from lap #12.

Another workaround.. I deleted the first 15 seconds of your data from your CSV file so that it starts towards the end of the front straight. This way you can set the start/finish at a better place on the straight (i.e. at the real finish line) and you should get a correct fast lap time then too. I'll email you the modified data file.

BTW, it looks like the text box for the fast lap # needs to be widened in that ZR1 gauge. Otherwise you'll just see the first digit, so a 1 in this case instead of the full 12.

Thanks,
Rolf

I'll play with the file you sent me Rolf.

The workaround makes sense although it's a bit of a hassle and you never know when that magic point in the CSV file is.

Will the bug be addressed anytime soon do you think?

BTW i don't use the ZR1 gauges at all, merely dropped them onto my movie as a test. I'm running a modified Subaru setup. See it here:
