Is the special harness and custom video module the only way to overlay data?

I tried to using the csv export from i2Pro and I receive "Error reading data logger file"

Is there something specific that dashware is looking for that I can just add into the csv?

Hi cbarr2081,

You will need to edit your Motec CSV file for DashWare to correctly understand it. Motec CSV files I believe typically look something like this:

"Format","MoTeC CSV File",,,"Workbook",""
"Venue","Laughlin NV",,,"Worksheet",""
"Vehicle","TT Two Seat",,,"Vehicle Desc",""
"Driver","Joe Bob",,,"Engine ID",""
"Device","ADL"
"Comment","",,,"Session","Race 1 Jan 01-2008"
"Log Date","1/01/2008",,,"Origin Time","0.000","s"
"Log Time","2:48:10 PM",,,"Start Time","0.000","s"
"Sample Rate","20.480","Hz",,"End Time","5823.242","s"
"Duration","5823.242","s",,"Start Distance",
"Range","entire outing",,,"End Distance",

"Time","Eng Oil Pres","Eng Oil Temp","Engine Temp","Eng Coolant Pres","Gbox Oil Temp","Gbox Oil Pres","Fuel Pres","Engine RPM","Battery Volts","Throttle Pos","Manifold Pres","Air Temp Inlet","Warning Light","Condition 1","Condition 2"
"s","kPa","C","C","kPa","C","kPa","kPa","rpm","V","%","kPa","C","","",""

"0.000","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1187.9","404.4","1356","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
"0.049","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1186.1","403.0","1338","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
"0.098","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1184.2","401.5","1350","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
...etc...

I marked the header line and the data lines in red. When using the data logger type "Other", the first line in the CSV file needs to be the header, and the data needs to start on the next line. There can't be anything in between.

The edited file should look something like this:

"Time","Eng Oil Pres","Eng Oil Temp","Engine Temp","Eng Coolant Pres","Gbox Oil Temp","Gbox Oil Pres","Fuel Pres","Engine RPM","Battery Volts","Throttle Pos","Manifold Pres","Air Temp Inlet","Warning Light","Condition 1","Condition 2"
"0.000","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1187.9","404.4","1356","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
"0.049","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1186.1","403.0","1338","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
"0.098","411.4","29.2","46.0","0.0","40.2","1184.2","401.5","1350","14.56","0.0","99.9","35.7","0","0","0"
...etc...

A better explanation can be found in the DashWare help under "How Do I... > Importing Video and Data > Using your Data Logger Software > Using Other Loggers".

Does that get you going?

Thanks,
Rolf

You do not need the Motec harness.

Another way to describe what Rolf is saying is to open the CSV file in Excel. Delete everything above the row headers (Time/Eng Oil Pres/Eng Oil Temp/etc.) and delete the row below the header row that gives units (s/kPa/C/etc.). Then 'SaveAs' to a CSV file again and upload to DashWare.

Thanks.

Thank you all! That makes sense I will try to put it together tonight.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I'll post a link when I have finished.

Here's the finished product. It's low quality because I want to be able to show it on my iphone.

Thanks again for all the help. Now if I could only lay down some music with Dashware. haha I guess that's what iMovie is good for.
