Hi,

Just a general question, my chasecam PDR gets really hot. Is that normal?

Also, some of my videos are looking "choppy". What could be going on?

Thanks!

Heat is normal, especially if you're running off internal AA batteries. But even non-battery ones can get quite warm. Should be nothing to worry about. Mounting it in a place where the car heat doesn't add to the temp is a good idea.

Choppy video is often caused by a bad CF card or a card that has been written over and over again many times. Try formatting the CF card and see if that helps. It could also be a video codec issue on your computer. Make sure your player plays MPEG2 videos or download VLC from www.videolan.org to play them.

Thanks.

Thanks Randall!

I have the units mounted on a padded pelican case (pdr + pip).

I'll reformat the card before my next race and will check the codecs.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to interface my MoTeC data with the video. Being that my MoTeC is an ADL (original) I believe I cannot interface directly. Suggestions?

Cheers! Juan

DashWare! :)

www.chasecam.com/dashware

We can upload the data from your MoTeC-generated .csv file and you can overlay gauges and (soon) view the data as graphs.

My videos are still coming up "choppy". I checked did updates on my computer (I gather i shall have current codecs). I reformatted the CF card.

Could it be the speed of the card? I use a Transcend 16GB 133X card.

I appreciate everyones feedback. Juan

Are you playing them with the VLC player? If not, try that to ensure it isn't a codec issue.

I'm using Windows Media. I'm downloading VLC right now.

Hey Juan.

I have the same Transcend 133 card.
I use Windows Media Player with no issues.

You might like to try a different PC to see where the issue lies.
(Just as a test.)

Nick.

Hi Nick!

Just tried and the problem occurs on 2 different computers... Different brands and configurations.

Thanks!

My guess is the issue is with the codec that you are using in windows media player. Nick may have a codec (from another program) that allows him to play it smoothly in WMP. VLC should have just as much resolution, try resizing the window.

Thanks!

Randall,

Nick sent me a video file (THANKS MUCH!) which I just played on my laptop (Windows Media) with no artifacts or lines.

I will check all connections on the car to make sure its not a problem there. I reformatted the card.

Other ideas?

Juan,

If it still doesn't work you're welcome to send it in to us to have a look. My next guess would probably be a bad card. We can easily test it here with a known good card. As always, my goal is to identify the problem in the field so you don't need to ship the unit to us.

Thanks.
