View Full Version : DashWare on Parallels for Mac OS X not working

Looks like it has problems with the file system structure where the root file system is networked. On Parallels, the C: drive has a path like "\\.psf\Home\Documents\DashWare Projects\NewProject" and DashWare does not like it by reporting this error:
"Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed".
This is a common problem with Windows apps running in Parallels.
Could you please fix it?
Thanks,
Pete

Looks like it has to do with the project templates because if I select "None", then DashWare successfully creates a project.
But, then when I try to load a video from the Desktop, I get:
"Object my be a root directory "C:\" or a drive "C:".
Definitely has some file system issues...
Thanks very much for the specific details, that will save us some time.
We will work on fixing it as quickly as we can.

Rolf,
Thanks for helping me make it work under Parallels!
The workaround you suggested to disable Profile Sharing in Parallels works, if you do it before installing DashWare.
Changing the project directory path to a Windows local directory in the Settings.xml file works perfectly. Obviously, a nice UI in DashWare to make this change would be REALLY nice :)
Thanks for the awesome customer support!
In case anyone else runs into this issue, here are instructions I found on how to disable profile sharing in Parallels:
1. Choose Parallels Virtual Machine/Configure...
2. Select the Features/Shared Profile catagory
3. Clear the "Enable" checkbox
4. Done (After re-login)
The problem with using profile sharing is your DashWare projects and such end up with a folder path that looks like a network share (e.g. "\\.psf\Home\Documents\DashWare Projects\NewProject"). Unfortunately, .NET code doesn't like that the hostname starts with a period ".", as in ".psf". The .NET code complains that ".psf" is not a valid hostname, hence the "Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed" error message.
If you installed DashWare while profile sharing was enabled, make sure DashWare is not running then delete your Settings.xml file. The next time you run DashWare it should automatically locate your new non-shared documents folder and place its projects folder below there.
On XP, Settings.xml is found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ChaseCam\Dashware\Settings\Settings.xml
Vista:
C:\ProgramData\ChaseCam\Dashware\Settings\Settings .xml
Thanks,
Rolf
