View Full Version : Jumpiness of position on track

I have a CSV file that I created a profile for. The only things it has are elapsed seconds, longitude and latitude. The positions are usually 1 second apart, but there are some 2 second gaps, too.
When I view the data with the track view, the GPS positions are correct when available (i.e. every second, on the second).
In-between the available GPS data, though, DashWare is interpolating positions in a strange way. It first drifts backwards slowly, then accelerates towards the next point. Once the next GPS point is available, the position is correct again. Then it drifts back, and accelerates to the next point again.

Any thoughts?

Found the bug and fixed it. The next DashWare release will have the fix.

If your logger logs at a low rate like 1Hz this will be more noticeable than with a faster logger.

If anyone needs a fix ASAP send me a PM.

I tried sending a PM but it said I don't have permission or something... Anyway, I also have data at 1hz with a jumpy position on track and would like the fix if possible.

Also, I don't know if it's related, but I have lap data with a lap counter and timer. In the second between the previous lap ending and the new lap starting, the lap timer counts backwards back down to 0. I guess because it is interpolating the times between them.

You can see this in my video (http://www.vimeo.com/10973192). The lap timer is in the lower left and when it hits about 1:19 it starts to slide back to 0 for the start of the next lap.

Hi Steve,

I have seen your bicycling videos. They are awesome, and I really like your gauges.

The position jumpiness looks exactly the same as the bug I (supposedly) fixed a while ago. Are you running the latest version of DashWare? 1.1.2 (available here: http://www.chasecam.com/dashware)? If not, then uninstall the old DashWare and install the new one (you won't lose your projects, templates, gauges, etc).

If you are running the latest version, can you please email the data file to rolf@chasecam.com so I can have a look?

The lap timing countdown bug is one I overlooked. I will fix that for the next release. In the meantime, if you set the start/finish in DashWare (sync pane) vs. using your own from the data, it should work properly.

Thanks,
Rolf
