View Full Version : Brake Input

I'd like to run a signal from the brakes into the sensor on the Data Module. The only signal I can think of on a Miata that will show brake activation is by tapping the brake lights. That's 12 volts. If I understand correctly, the input is 0-5v.
Anyone have a better idea for getting a brake signal? Will 12v from the brake light input toast the Data Module? (obviously something I don't want to just try and see how it works out)

You should be fine. You can send a 12v signal. The unit won't record more than 6v, but what you should see in the data is a spike from 0v to 6v when the brake is on. You can use DashWare to setup a gauge that will light up when this happens.
Thanks!

I also tapped into my brake lights but I cant figure out how to configure the DashWare for it. In Gauge Inputs under Throttle I just see Brake Pressure or Brake Position. How do I add the brake light input?

I would just use Brake Position. It really doesn't matter what you call it. You'll need to make sure that the bar/light/gauge you're using to represent it on the screen is also tied to Brake Position, then it should just go from off to on when the brakes are pushed.

I was wondering if you could use the RPM input for brake light (On/Off) indicator. As i would like to use the throttle position for the A/F logging as I can get the throttle setting & RPM via the OBDII cable.

That's a good question. I'll see what I can test here.

Looks like the RPM input is specific to RPM.

Just my 2c.
I have found that the reading of ODB2 data to be substantially slower than readings on the Data inputs on the DM10.
I have found that the RPM & Throttle Position are much more responsive when I record them myself.
We really just need more inputs. <G>

What field should I use to map the gauge to for this input?.
Thanks.
