Do you have an estimate of when the OBD2 cable will be available?
Also, it would be great to get a general idea of how this will work. Will all data on the data buss be available for analysis, or will it be necessary to select/program the data blocks/words in advance which will then be monitored and stored in real time?
Will this work with the latest sports cars which use the CAN Buss?

I've successfully tested the prototype. We are close to going to production. I would guess within 30 days.
It will automatically collect certain data, assuming it is available. Basically, we'll pre-program a data set, and your car will supply that set or some subset.
It should work will all OBD2 including CAN.
Thanks!

How many data items can you support? And, have you finalized the data set? If not final, are you taking suggestions?
For example, it would be great to get the following items which are available from the various modules on the CAN buss on our Audis:
RPM;
Throttle Position;
Brake Pressure;
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) temperature and pressure data;
suspension travel;
vehicle yaw rate;
Engine temperatures & pressures;

Any update on when the OBD2 cable will be available for the DM10?

Just successfully tested the next prototype. I'm told I will have production units shipped to me on 3/12.
Data set includes:
RPM*
Speed*
Throttle Position*
Manifold Absolute Pressure* (boost)
Ignition Timing Advance
Coolant Temp
Intake Air Temp
Mass Air Flow
Fuel Level
Fuel Pressure
Barometric Pressure
These are the key (useful) parameters that are standard on all OBD2 vehicles. We could potentially implement additional vehicle/make-specific parameters as described above, but there is usually a significant cost to get this info (some manuf charge $50k). If we had enough interest by a specific club, series, or other group to make this a feasible financial endeavor, we would entertain it.
Older OBD2 vehicles are limited to those that have a * designation due to the fact that the vehicle's OBD2 is relatively slow. We assume people would rather see those four key pieces of info at a higher rate rather than all the parameters at a lower rate. Newer CAN-based OBD2 vehicles will pull all fields listed above.
Thanks.

That is wonderful news. We are really looking forward to having this data. Will we be able to pre-order cables?
I can get a very complete list of data parameters for my car (Audi R8). If I provide you with the module address, data word and bit coding, would the cost still be prohibitive to add additional data?

We have a list of preorders going. If you'd like to get on it, please give us a call 858-397-1777. Kim or Kelly can help you.
I'll look into the extended parameters and get back to you. Send an email to sales@chasecam.com to my attention and I'll follow up with you direct on any details we may need.
Thanks!

A quick teaser video and screenshot of some of the OBD2 stuff.

Video is only 2 MB and about 5 seconds:

Just got on the order list. I real like that gauge set-up.

Just got the cable...
I see in my XXXX_ODB-II.csv data file that I have data for:
sec
RPM
speed
throttle_position
manifold_absolute_pressure
coolant_temp
intake_air_temp
mass_air_flow
engine_load
timing_advance
No mention in there about:
Fuel Level
Fuel Pressure
Barometric Pressure
My engine is a GM Ecotec engine (same as a chevy cobalt.)
The ECU came out of a Chevy Malibu.
The engine is supercharged with the GM/Eaton supercharger.
What is the point in the SPEED sensor.
The ODB records this once 9/8th of a second.
The GPS records this every other frame about 10 times a second.
Obviously the GPS is 10x faster (and probably more accurate.)
Why do I not have the fuel/environmental settings?
Is it because they are not implemented, or because my ECU does not suppor them, or because I simply have no sensors?
Nick.

Nick,
OBD2 speed is based on the vehicle. On new CAN-based systems we're logging all parameters at 12-15Hz. For these cars, it probably makes more sense to use the OBD2 speed, since it's based on a wheel speed sensor. We left both data sets in there so you can change your profile to use whichever one you want.
If any parameters that are listed aren't being recorded, it's because your manufacturer has decided not to follow the standard parameter IDs. What we normally see is that the PIDs that aren't supported are usually the ones that are less important (i.e. it appears everyone supports RPM and throttle position).
I saw your other emails come through and will get back to you via email.
Thanks!

Thanks Randy, that makes a lot of sense.

How do you get the OBD2 data to save?
I have the cable connected in our Cayman S, and i get no data from the car. I get GPS data and G Force data, but no OBD2.

Keith, it should automatically. One reason it may not, is if you have a very old PDR that did not accept RS-232, a feature we added later.
If that is the issue, we can send you a small cable that adds RS-232 to your PDR. Might be worth trying in any case.

Randy, since I am getting GPS data from the DM10 unit, it is communicating with the pdr. unless there is some other protocol at work. I'll recheck all the connections when I take it out this weekend.
