I'm using the Magneti Marelli files (.csv)with Trackvision for overlay data of our on board cameras inside Ferrari 430 supercar (GT2).
Is there a way to "sychronize" easly the video+data?? For now, i'm using the "gear" as refer..When the driver touch the gear, and i can see the gear number, i can synch the video + data..but i'm tired to do it! Any suggest?

I think the simple answer is no. Can the ECU send out any control signals?

One idea would be a simple interface that accepts the ECU signals and controls the PDR.

I don't know if can send a signal, and i don't think wich somebody can say me!
Anyway, can be a good solution connecting a "super capacitor"pdr100, because can start to record when the 12v power up the recorder (and logger start to log) but there is a "timing" for the PDR100 (power on, check the CF card..and after some seconds start to REC)..
I can put a PIC properly programmed to start the REC only after some seconds, but i don't think wich can be a good solution..

here are our Ferrari dashboard for our customer, we will show the RPM, gear, speed, Gforces, acceleration and brake:

Hi

If you already work with trackvision, there is a lot of simple way to synchronize the video and the datas.
The more simple is when you are on the pit lane: speed 0 / video on.
When the car is going to move ( speed value : 1 ) you can easily synch the video and the data at this moment for all the video. You do that only one time.
Synch with the gear is not as precise as this kind of way.

Using the ~40 millisecond timing of the PDR is also fine to synch. Just remember that in NTSC you have nearly 1 frame each 33 millisecond and in PAL it's 1 each 40 millisecond. In the both standard ,if you loose something, it's only 1 frame... not a lot !

Consider also that with Trackvision, the more precise you can do is 500 millisecond...

Hope it's help you and hope I understand your question, too!

Hi,

I believe the above is incorrect - It's not running right now, so I can't test it, but I'm 99.9% sure you can "jog" either the data and/or the video by 50mSec. Time moves from say, 29.75 -> 29.80

Use the "shift" or "ctrl" (?) keys (option on a Mac?) when pressing the arrow key - From memory, one of 'em does 100mSec and the other 50mSec.

Cheers,
Ian

Ian

Sorry, but You are wrong and...right.
There is not a speed as 50mSec into Trackvision, it's 0.5s ( 500msec), but there is a more precise one which is 0.1s ( 100 mSec) that I forget.

Time moves from say 29,75 > 29,85

Trackvision say:

rewind to the beginning
backup 1 second, 0.5 seconds with Shift key, 0.1 seconds with Ctrl key
begin playback
pause playback
move forward 1 second, 0.5 seconds with Shift key, 0.1 seconds with Ctrl key
fast forward to the end of the file

So the two "speeds" are:
1st: 100 mSec
2nd: 500 mSec
So in 1 Sec with the more precise speed (100 mSec) you loose 3 frames in NTSC and less than 3 in Pal.

Stupid and no sens !!

I have writen :
So in 1 Sec with the more precise speed (100 mSec) you loose 3 frames in NTSC and less than 3 in Pal

Of course you don't "loose" any frame !!

With Trackvision, when you synchronize frames/datas, with the more prescise speed, you jump 3 frames by 3 frames in NTSC and less than 3 in PAl.

It was, certainly too early in the morning...

Hello,

Is there someone who has already experienced to sync videos recorded by the PDR100 and datas from the Wintax (Magnetti Marelli). The Wintax is used by the Ferrari 430 (GT3).

Thank you for your help.

Hi Denis

You need a soft to join vidéos and datas after changing your data file in .csv. Today you have www.trackvision.net and in a few time, Dashware from chasecam.
Look at the trackvision's forum to discover how it's working, Dashware certainly worked on the same way.

Look at the very good job of onboardcamera on the web www.onboardcamera.it in VIDEO/FOTO at the end of the page, Ferrari F430.
It's a very good and clean exemple of what you can do. As you can read in those posts, the F430 work with Magnetti Marelli.
If you need some help for trackvision, try trackvision's forum directly...or Dashware when it will be ready ;)

Michel

Hi Michel,

Thank you for your quick answers. Very helpfull !

You seem to have experienced in videos and datas sync. Are you Michel Broussal, the French Formula 3 driver ? Do you already use Trackvision with the Motec or the Wintax for your own driving activities ?

I am French too. I would be glad to be in touch with you. Here is my mail adress : contact@bebop-cameras.com.
