in my world a tach signal has always been negative side of coil to ground. is this the correct way to wire the data module?

will i be asked in dashware how many cylinders the engine is or is this configured in the hardware?

If the negative side is the one that pulses, then that's it. It should be the same line that is sent to the tach.

DashWare will prompt you for # of cylinders when you open the data.
