View Full Version : Resonance between PDR & mount (again!)

Hi,

Back in the (good?) old days of the original forums, I posted that I was getting a horrible resonance between these two - Many questioned my sanity (!) and all said "never experienced that"..... I said I would follow up with a little video that demonstrated the effect. I've now created said video, and you can view it at the link below - First part is "before", second part "After". Same road, only change was the addition of the tape..... Comments?

I don't think I'm going insane

BTW - I just re-registered, but "you" won't allow me to start a new thread in the PDR forum :( Hence, I had to put it here - Please feel free to move.

Cheers,
Ian
PS - OK, Youtube is taking a *long* time to process the vid - I'll post the link in a follow up post as soon as I get it....

The long awaited link:

It's only about 20 seconds, with the "before" version about 7 of that....

Ian,

Do you have the mount clamp installed with the yellow pin?

Thanks.

No Sir.

I do have that piece, but I've never bothered to install it [I'm not figuring on going upside down ;)]

Incidentally, I just got back from the annual Virginia City hillclimb and the PDR worked great most of the time [I'll start another thread with the details of the "issues" I had] but the insulating tape I stuck on the "catches" appears to have solved the resonating issue.

Cheers,
Ian

Ian,

A couple other things I'd check:

-Make sure the mount still has the four little pads that go on the base under the PDR.
-Make sure the "handles" on either end are on tight.
-Make sure the PDR "snaps" into place. If it doesn't snap tightly, you can bend the ends inward slightly to make it tighter.

Thanks!

It does.

They are.

It actually "snaps in" with a very satisfying "click" - Albeit less of a click since I added the tape. Oh well, no big deal. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Cheers,
Ian
