V2.1

Changes to the OS include:

Fixed data recording bug.
Status LED now working.

Not implemented yet and in work:
Anamorphic widescreen video tags. Anamorphic 16:9 may work anyway at this point, but not guaranteed.

Need menu items to control PIP and mirror functions. Only factory presets are available at this time.

Need ability to set RS-232 rate or raw capture mode. Only mode supported at this time is 38,400 baud and command mode defaults.

NEXT menu item on TOOLS (Setup or System) does not save settings. Changes are discarded regardless if user presses SEL or MENU.

NEXT FROM in TOOLs menu tab is not functional.

New in v2.050 and 2.041 (not released):

Fixed the truncated/duplicated block at the end of the Data File.

Corrected the USB VID/PID and descriptors to be ChaseCam DIVA.

Removed the extra USB device (CF card reader) that was appearing on the user's PC, but was (of course) not functional.

Removed non-functional choices "Loop" and "Recycle" from the file size action preference (Stop and Split remain).

Created an icon for the new menu tab "Data" for data recording options, and moved the menu item to set the data board serial port mode to that tab. Removed the "Purchased Options" tab (skeleton key icon) as there aren't any (yet?) in the DIVA.

Clarified wording of the Startup: preference item for display on LCD or A/V output, in the System tab. Fixed bug that prevented the A/V output from being active on startup when selected.

Clarified wording of the Format memory card preference item in the System tab.

Clarified wording of the Restore to Defaults preference item in the System tab.

GForce Trigger is implemented. There is a new item in the "Data" menu tab (computer icon) for its settings. The settings are:
Enable: On, Off
Sensitivity: 0.09 to 2.00 G/frame
Stop Delay: 10 seconds to 30 minutes

When the GF Trigger is Enabled, the record button (and equivalents) act to toggle the Armed state, rather than start and stop actual recording. The Armed state is indicated by a short red flash of the LED, with a slow repeat rate.

A jerk exceeding the sensitivity setting will trigger recording. This also initiates the stop delay timer. If the timer expires before another trigger event this recording stops, but the DIVA remains Armed.
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_%28physics%29>

The firmware version of the data board is shown on the splash screen, next to the firmware version of the main board.

Removed non-functional choices "System" and "TV type" from the Tools menu tab. The recording format selection of NTSC or PAL (formerly "System") and the A/V output format selection of NTSC or PAL (formerly "TV Type") are defaulted to NTSC.

The Next File item on the Tools menu tab allows the user to change the file name prefix for recorded files.

Known Problems in v2.050

The behavior of the DIVA when presented PAL source material is not well tested. It may record the material to a PAL format file, or to an NTSC format file. When playing a PAL format file to the DIVA's A/V output the DIVA outputs an NTSC format signal.

Sometimes when the USB cable is removed the DIVA fails to return to standby mode. Pressing the MENU button wakes it up.

Sometimes when the firmware or data board update completes the DIVA fails to return to standby mode. Pressing the MENU button wakes it up.

There is no menu item to set the data board serial baud rate. 19,200 baud is the default for Data Capture mode, and 38,400 baud is the default for command mode.

Anamorphic wide screen recording is not supported. The VIEW items which select it are still present, but the recorded files are not properly marked as wide screen. This may still be useful as most players (and TV sets) will allow manual selection of 16:9 widescreen mode for SD video sources.

There are no menu items to control PIP position nor camera mirror functions.

The "Next From" setting in the Next File item of the Tools menu tab is ignored. New recordings are always given the next higher number than recordings already on this card. This setting is supposed to allow the user to choose to have the next recording number based on an internal counter (so it doesn't reset when you put in a new card).

New in V2.061

New in v2.060 and v2.061 d21:

Automatically selects PAL recording format and PAL A/V output signal format if connected to a PAL source signal (on any of the 4 input channels). Do not use a mix NTSC and PAL sources with the DIVA.

There is a new Serial Rate item in the "Data" menu tab (computer icon). This allows the baud rate on the serial input to be selected: 115,200, 38,400, 19,200 or 9600 baud. This rate applies to both the Data Capture and Command Protocol modes. When updating from v2.040 through v2.052 the Serial Rate will default to 19,200 if Serial Mode had been Data Capture; 38,400 if it had been Command Protocol.

The factory default for the Serial Mode setting is now "Data Capture".

The Display item in the "Tools" menu tab now has a third option: "LCD Rotated". This selection flips the LCD display over, for viewing from the front of the DIVA rather than the top.

Known Problems in v2.060 and v2.061 d21:

When playback mode is selected the format of the A/V output signal is determined by the connected signal sources (if any) rather than the format of the recording being played.

Bug fixes in v2.060 and v2.061 d21:

Unplugging the USB connection the first time after startup no longer causes a blank screen.

The thumbnail view in Playback mode no longer shows tabs for recording types not supported by the DIVA. Only videos and playlists remain.

New in v2.062 d21:

Adds items to the setup menu to control the multi-camera View and Picture-In-Picture configuration.

Fixed broken presets in the Audio Gain control.

The "Prefix" characters set in the Next File item of the Tools menu tab now take effect when saved (SEL button), rather than being deferred until the next time the DIVA is powered up.

Known Problems in v2.062 d21:

When playback mode is selected the format of the A/V output signal is determined by the connected signal sources (if any) rather than the format of the recording being played.

Anamorphic wide screen recording is not supported. The VIEW items which select it are still present, but the recorded files are not properly marked as wide screen. This may still be useful as most players (and TV sets) will allow manual selection of 16:9 widescreen mode for SD video sources.

New in v2.063 d22, 2011-01-07:

Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the data stream to stop prematurely. When
this happened a recording in progress would continue, and subsequent
recordings could be made, but no further data would be collected and there was
no visible notice of this problem. Only turning the DIVA off and on again
would restore data collection.

Added LED indication if the data stream stops: The GPS LED will blink rapidly
and if the DIVA is in record or standby mode the Status LED will blink red
rapidly.

Known Problems in v2.063 d22:

When playback mode is selected the format of the A/V output signal is
determined by the connected signal sources (if any) rather than the format of
the recording being played.

Anamorphic wide screen recording is not supported. The VIEW items which select
it are still present, but the recorded files are not properly marked as wide
screen. This may still be useful as most players (and TV sets) will allow
manual selection of 16:9 widescreen mode for SD video sources.

The "Next From" setting in the Next File item of the Tools menu tab is
ignored. New recordings are always given the next higher number than
recordings already on this card. This setting is supposed to allow the user to
choose to have the next recording number based on an internal counter (so it
doesn't reset when you put in a new card).

New in v2.064 d22:

Fixed a bug that caused the DIVA to stay in Standby mode even when the Startup: Auto Record menu item had been selected.

If StartUp: is set to Standby then the unit starts up in Standby.

START UP to Auto Record set to ON. Unit will start recording when powered up. Pressing the front button will toggle the condition to standby.

IF GF Trigger is enabled, then GF Trigger over rides START UP and only records when trigger condition is met. Pressing the front panel button will NOT start and stop recording, it will start and stop the trigger condition. In other words, pressing the front panel button will suspend the trigger until you press it again. Note that the trigger condition will be indicated by the slow flashing red status LED.

Known Problems in v2.064 d22: Same as v2.062

New in v2.070 d22:

Changed the operation of GF Trigger versus Startup: Auto Record. Now when the GF Trigger is enabled the unit will start armed; and, if Startup: Auto Record is also set, recording (triggered).

Added a new item to the Settings tab: Record Button: Normal or Hold.

When Hold is selected a recording is started by pressing the record button, and continues as long as the button remains held; releasing the button ends the recording. If the GF Trigger is also enabled, holding the button arms the unit, releasing the button disarms the unit (and ends any recording in progress). Turn off the unit by holding the DOWN arrow on the membrane pad for two seconds.

When Normal is selected the behavior is the same as prior versions.

New in v2.071 d24, 2011-02-01:

Fixed an overrun condition that could occur when using GF Trigger and GPS
data. This had caused data drop-outs during recordings.

Known Problems in v2.071 d24:
DIVA can't play back recordings made with prefixes other than "CH0"
(C H zero), though the .MP4 files are fine and they play in PCs and
other devices just fine.

When playback mode is selected the format of the A/V output signal is determined by the connected signal sources (if any) rather than the format of the recording being played.

New in v2.073 d26:

Fixed some "ready to record" issues involving the GF Trigger armed state. Those issues could cause the application to hang when attempting to open the data file. Fixed the data file open routines not to hang on failure.

Changed the VIEW button so that it will not cycle through the view options if there is only a single camera attached. The Initial Camera Views item in the Setup menu tab (tools icon) must be used instead.

Changed factory default: GF Trigger enabled, 0.25 G/field, 60 Seconds.

Fixed some quirks relating to the operation of the Audio Gain item in the Audio menu tab (loudspeaker icon).

Removed 115,200 baud from the Serial Rate item in the Data menu tab (computer icon).

Implemented diagnostic port control and commands for factory test use.

Known Problems in all versions:

DIVA can't play back recordings made with prefixes other than "CH0"

Note- Versions 2.075-2.077 internal use only.

New in v2.078 d26:

Merged code image supports both DIVA SD and DIVA HD models.

Added another side-by-side view option for two cameras: full height, half width images from both cameras, center cropped. SD only.

Improved handling of failures during firmware update. Now a pop-up message is presented rather than stalling in the "Processing" screen forever.

Known Problems in all versions:

DIVA can't play back recordings made with prefixes other than "CH0"
(C H zero), though the .MP4 files are fine and they play in PCs and

New in v2.080 d26:

Implemented "Recycle" mode, in the Video menu (camera icon). Deletes older recordings as needed to allow continuous recording, aka "commuter mode". For best results, the user should also set the File Length limit to less than half the capacity of the card. That will help ensure that at least the last full length recording is preserved at any moment.

Improved handling of failures in the HD DIVA when the camera is not connected. Playback and USB card reader modes are available, but no recordings can be made. Warning: the user should always power down the HD DIVA before connecting or disconnecting its camera.

Released V2085 d29

No impact beyond V2084 for HD systems. Adds Real Time Data (phase 1) for SD systems.

New in v2.085 d29:

Added a new menu tab (looks like a gauge) with controls to enable and position two "instrument clusters" that will be burned into the recorded video. In this release there are only two clusters, Date/Time and "Basic" (which includes only GForce, as a friction circle and as text).

While in an adjustment menu, holding down the VIEW button will hide the menu so that you can see the on-screen effect of your adjustments.

We do intend on adding in more data overlay functionality, but we have some customers that needed this early release.

Released V2.086 d30

Added a new selection, "Output GPS (plus Capture)", to the Serial Port Mode item of the data tab. This new mode causes the reports from the internal GPS receiver to be output on the serial port. All sentences, all the time (whether recording or not). Anything input on the serial port will be captured, same as Data Capture mode.

NOTE: Our GPS receiver generates more output than can be handled at 9600 baud. If the serial port is set to this rate some GPS sentences will be dropped. We recommend the use of one of the higher baud rates with this mode.

Due to a hardware restriction, both Rx and Tx are at the same baud rate.

New in v2.090 d32, 2011-11-02:

o Corrected the orientation of the GForce "friction circle" overlay to match
Dashware and the documented default GForce orientation (LEDs forward,
connectors rearward).

o Added GForce Orientation to the Data menu. The item has two choices. The
first, "keep the current orientation" is useful mainly to cancel a
reorientation if you can't or don't want to do it now. The second, "Start
Reorientation", begins the reorientation process and will power down the DIVA
after displaying a pop-up reminder.

While the DIVA is powered down the user may make any necessary
preparations, including mounting the DIVA in the user's preferred orientation.

On the next power up the user should let the DIVA complete its startup
and keep it still for a few seconds while the DIVA locates the "down"
direction. Then the user should move forward and stop. The forward motion
does not need to be lengthy but should be fairly brisk, the same threshold is
used as was used in the PDR100.

While waiting to complete the reorientation motion the DIVA will display
the word "Reorient" in the upper right corner of the LCD and will make a
repeating short flash on the Green LED. When reorientation is completed the
DIVA will switch to its normal power-up state (Standby, GF Armed, or Auto
Record).

o Auto Record now has a 40 second delay on power up to allow the supercaps time
to charge, assuring a clean closure of the recording in progress should the
power fail. This is indicated with a negative recording time counting up on
the upper right of the LCD, and a repeating short Amber (red+green) flash of
the LEDs.

o HD Recording bitrates have been increased to 6 mbps (Normal), 7 mbps (Fine)
and 8 mbps (S.Fine). This is an increase from the prior 2/3/4 mbps rates,
which are still used for SD recordings.

New in v2.091 d33, 2011-11-15:

Corrected an error that caused the TimeStamp menu item to halt the DIVA.

Improved the timing update in the data board to prevent loss of ticks when the
HD mainboard is too busy. This resolves a tendency for data in long HD
recordings to display ahead of the video. Recommended, but not required, is an
update to xdata which will compensate for residual differences between the
video frequency and the data board clock.

Changed the main board's coordination with the data board at the end of a
recording to avoid waiting for the middleware to complete the transition to
standby. This resolves a problem with Recycle mode, where the data board would
not be informed of the end of the recording, causing the next recording to be
missing its PDDID record.

In recycle mode, modified the response to a "memory runout" error (sometimes
caused by a slow card) to start a new recording rather than stop. This
resolves a problem with Recycle mode, where it was sometimes observed to stop
rather than run continuously.

Improved the validation of the timestamp used for SYN records. This may
resolve a problem where an invalid SYN record would cause confusion in xdata.

New in v2.093 d33, 2011-05-09:

Added support for a new serial scantool. The Data menu has a new serial
port mode that interacts with that module to periodically retrieve the list of
PIDs below. As a speed optimization, if a PID doesn't respond we
stop asking (this is for vehicles that don't implement all 12 PIDs).

0C RPM
0D speed
11 throttle_position

05 coolant_temp
0F intake_air_temp
46 ambient_air_temp
10 mass_air_flow
04 engine_load
0E timing_advance
2F fuel_level
33 barometric_pressure

A new release of xdata will be required to support the OBDPro data in
Dashware.

Corrected a problem that caused 2.092 to fail unrecoverably on SD DIVAs. If
2.092 is loaded onto an SD DIVA the failure can only be corrected by having
the factory re-flash the DIVA.

Known Problems in v2.093 d33: Same as v2.062 d21.

New in v2.094 d34, 2011-05-21:

Added support for an internal Flash drive. This appears as a second USB mass
storage device in addition to the SD card device. The internal drive is
initialized to contain the following:
autorun.inf
misc\DIVA.ico
copy2SD\autorun.inf
copy2SD\misc\DIVA.ico

The .inf and .ico files allow Windows systems to correctly identify the
internal and SD cards in Windows explorer and other displays.

Any files placed in the copy2SD folder will be copied to the SD card in the
DIVA the first time a recording is made on that card. This allows the cards
written by a given DIVA to be customized, say, to identify the owner of the
DIVA or the car in which this card was written.

Added a new "Logo" cluster, which holds a static image and optionally a line
of text. This item can be enabled and positioned via the the Gauge menu. By
default the ChaseCam Logo is displayed.

The ChaseCam logo can be overridden by
placing the following files on either the SD card or the internal flash (the
SD card takes priority if the files are present on both):
custom\logo.gif
custom\logo.act
custom\logo.txt (optional)

The .gif and .act files must be placed in the same folder (SD or internal) and
must be specifically crafted to work correctly with the DIVA. Instructions for
crafting these files is not included in this release, and it is not
recommended that customers attempt to craft their own. Unpredictable results
may occur including locking up the DIVA if the files are in an unexpected
format.

The .txt file may be placed on the SD card while the image files are on the
internal drive, or vice-versa. The text will be displayed in one line
immediately below the logo, trimmed to match the width of the logo.

Fixed a bug that caused clusters to be incorrectly positioned in PAL
recordings.

New in v2.095 d34, 2011-05-30:

Implemented a camera Mirror function for the HD Diva. This is a new item in the Setup menu (tools icon). When "On" the recorded (and previewed) image is reversed horizontally.

Removed the Resolution item from the Video menu (movie camera icon). The HD DIVA records 1280x720 progressive, 59.94 FPS. The SD DIVA records 720x480 interlaced, 29.97 FPS. PAL 720x576 interlaced 25 FPS.

Changed the default action when the file length limit is reached. The new default is "Split and continue" (the old default had been "Stop"). Note: this will not change a user's current setting unless the user elect to restore alltheir settings to factory default.

Changed the Movie Recovery behavior if the menu times out without user
interaction. Now it defaults to "Yes" and attempts to recover the movie after 20 seconds without user interaction. The default "SEL" action is also changed to "Yes".
