How long does the recorder last running solely on battery power while recording on med and high resolution?

The recording quality will not change the battery life. If the PDR is powering the bullet camera and running off the internal AA batteries, you should get about 2 and 1/2 hours of life using NiMh and a bit more using Lithium.
You can use Nicads, but will not get more than 10 minutes out of them.

I use batteries so as not to put too much strain on the car's tiny battery. I use 2300mAh rechargeable NiMh, and it EASILY fills a 4GB card. How much longer it'll sit on standby I don't know, as I've left it overnight but of course it only records until the card is full. I would use lithium, but I don't believe there are rechargeable AA lithiums available!
I also tried Nicads too, but didn't manage 10 minutes. I think I got one minute!

NiCads won't work well. Nickel Metal Hydride will work and the Lithium's Randy is referring to are the Energizers that are not rechargeable.
I use a large L-ion to power 2 PDR's and it will last a little over 6 hours, 12 hours if I just run a single PDR.
Remember NEVER USE REGULAR ALKALINE BATTERIES. THEY DO NOT LAST!

I would just call and see what can be done in regards to the extra batteries. I don't think it will be a problem to get extra batteries.
We use Transcend 32 gig CF cards.

We have extra rechargeable batteries. As Jordan said, give us a ring and we can set you up.
Thanks!

If we were to use both the 12v and 4 batteries in the pdr or on the ss1000 what would be the power draw priority (ie will the batteries be drained before the power gets pulled from the 12v or the other way around?).

Hi M.P.
When you plug in an external 12v power, it becomes priority.
The 4 AA take over if the 12v has problems.
If you like risk and are tired by the AA rechargeable, You can also use the PDR without AA after plug in a very good and secure 12v.

Thank you.
I've been using Lithium batteries ($$$) as I am show casing the product to potential customers and getting 12v is a problem.
The 12v block would be a good "second source" to ensure more autonomy.
Are rechargeable capacity (2500mAh) stout enough to last 2 - 2.5 hours on a pdr100 and ss1000?

I understand
It will be better to use rechargeble Ni-MH 2800 mAh or more.
The PDR don't work a long time with standard AA ( Lithium or not).
Anyway, forget the non-rechargeable AA batteries, in your case, you'll save money with the rechargeable one !
I don't think you can record 2h or 2h30 with a set of AA rechargeable but purhaps somebody with more experience could answer you.
Remember that if you don't have a good power, the PDR will not working fine. There is a lot of exemple of "problems" with the PDR caused only and simply by a bad power.

MP,
I bench tested 4-internal Lithium AAs at 2:45
I bench tested 8-external Lithium AAs at 6+ hours using our 8-cell battery holder
It's fairly typical that 8 external batteries would last twice as long as 4 internal ones. For portability and long-life, use both 8-external and 4-internal--when the external ones die it will fail over to the internal ones.
Hope this helps!

Yup. Great idea. I will do just that.
I will use an external expansion and still put some rechargeable in the pdr. This way if it fails it will still have enough power...
